Only your imagination is the limit: inventive DIY separator builds

One of the best things about selling just the separator — rather than a finished toilet — is seeing the wildly different ways people build around it. As one customer put it, the only limit is your imagination.

From the Netherlands, Guido Willemsen sent us his neat, clever build: “See below my solution for your We-Pee separator. Thanks for your contribution to this.” Simple, tidy and entirely his own.

Neil went all in. “I built my own cabinet for it and a custom cabin around that, all from recycled materials. I added a few embellishments for comfort, got some friends to test it on holiday — it works a treat. I’ve already encouraged at least one other person to buy from you.”

And Fran fitted one on her boat: “I built a surround and installed it in our boat — it works a treat. Thank you for making it good quality and affordable too.” Composting loos on liveaboard boats, she tells us, are really catching on.

Reclaiming, reusing and recycling are part of the ethos we share with our customers. The separator is the one part worth buying well made; the rest you can craft from whatever timber, fittings and imagination you have to hand.

Got a project in mind? Start with a solid, well-designed separator and let your creativity do the rest. We can’t wait to see where yours ends up.
