Outdoor compost toilet installation with disabled access for primary school

Some of our favourite installations are the ones that introduce kids to compost toilets early. Here's a project we supplied separators for: disabled-access compost loos installed in time for Kings Worthy Primary School's annual camp-out in June 2021.

The toilet block is fully accessible — wide doors, level access, internal grab rails — with our separators inside doing the unglamorous but essential job of keeping the whole system odour-free.

Compost toilets and children

A common question we get from school and youth-group operators: do compost toilets work for kids? Short answer: yes, with one tweak. Younger boys may need to be reminded to sit (a sign in the loo helps). Otherwise the experience is essentially the same as a regular toilet, just water-free.

For an annual school camp-out, the upside is significant. No water connection needed, no chemical loos to service, and a quiet but meaningful demonstration of sustainability in action that the kids carry home with them.

For schools and community projects

We work directly with schools, parish councils, scout groups and community organisations on compost toilet builds. Our £31 Urine Separator is the most popular choice for institutional builds — simple, robust, and easy to specify in larger quantities. See our Wholesale & Trade page for bulk pricing.
