On the road: We-Pee separators that travel the world

In France and right across Europe, the toilette sèche à séparation has gone from punchline to must-have in van conversions. Vanlifers love that it needs no water, no chemicals and no service area — just a separator, a little imagination and the open road ahead.

Take K. Hatzing, who sent us a photo of a separator tucked neatly into a Citroën Berlingo. “I wanted to show you one of the separators — it will drive with me in winter in my Berlingo to Portugal.” Bon voyage!

Then there’s Laura, who built a portable dry toilet for her van. “Though the toilet is quite small, because it had to fit in a very tiny space, it works perfectly. I’m very happy with it and would, without a doubt, recommend it to anyone.” She even trimmed a couple of centimetres off each side to make it fit — a handy reminder that our separator is easy to cut down to size.

Across the Atlantic, Kaetlynn fitted hers in a school-bus conversion in California: “OMG it’s so much better than my last urine diverter — and it looks better too. Thank you!”

The principle behind it all is beautifully simple: separate the liquids from the solids at the source. That stops the fermentation that causes odours, keeps everything dry, and means no chemical cassette to haul to a dump point. For life on the road, that is real freedom.

Planning a conversion of your own? Our urine separators are compact, robust and easy to fit into even the tiniest of vans. Build your perfect mobile loo around one and go wherever the road takes you.
